The VEML7700 simplifies your life by calculating illuminance, which is the SI unit of light. You’ll get more consistent readings across multiple sensors because you won’t have to deal with values that are unitless. The sensor has a 16-bit dynamic range that detects ambient light from 01ux to about 120klux with a resolution as low as 0.00361x/ct and has software adjustable gain and integration time.
The sensor uses a common general purpose i2C. We put this sensor on a breakout board with a 3.3V regulator and logic level converter so you can use it with a 3.3V or 5V power supply/logic microcontroller.
microcontroller. We have written libraries in R3 (C/C++) and CircuitPython (Python3) so you can use this sensor with almost any type of device, even a Raspberry Pi.
